Dollhouse Family Heirloom

My two and a half year old granddaughter, Ingrid, just discovered my dollhouse and she absolutely loved it, actually ‘playing’ the people by putting them in bed, on the ‘potty’ and other things that are familiar to her life. It was so adorable! Two of my older grandchildren have also enjoyed the dollhouse and now it is Ingrid’s turn.

I received the dollhouse as a Christmas gift from my sister and her new husband back in 1971. I was nine years old. My brother-in-law Doug had just joined the family that October. As a carpenter and creative soul, he and my sister took it upon themselves to build and decorate the dollhouse. It is a cool mid-century modern style similar to the actual house I lived in at the time.

My own children enjoyed playing with it, and now, nearly forty years later, I can share it with my grandchildren, too. There have been times when it was a burden to move, since it’s large and I have moved too many times in my life, but I am so grateful for the memories it now represents. It has truly become a family heirloom.
